Gorillas in Uganda

I recently went to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to see one of the gorilla families. It is a unique challenge to photograph these animals. Whist they are extremely used to human interaction, and you get quite close to them, the forest is dark and gloomy which means you push your cameras ISO quite high to get a nice image, but then, a minor movement, and you might have to try shooting them against a very bright sky as Gorillas climb out onto limbs.

One of the most remarkable things about gorillas is just how human they are to photograph. Their eyes in particular. Just like capturing people, you need to get the attention of the eyes. The difference is shooting a model, you can wave, or ask for attention. It takes a brave person to try that with a 800 pound gorilla...
